History

bullet

In 1880, brothers Charles and John Pinard purchased the land on the corner of Narragansett and Annandale Avenues in Newport, RI.  The brothers owned a catering business in New York City and were looking to tap into the growing Newport area.

In 1881, Pinard Cottages were built according to the design of architect Dudley Newton.  There were originally 6 cottages.

Over the years, the cottages were turned into apartments, mostly inhabited by students of the nearby Naval Academy.  Eventually, they fell into disrepair and were left in slummish condition.

In 1981, Pinard Cottage Condo Association was established.  The cottages were completely gutted and renovated, keeping much of the original design, including stained glass windows.
